Introducing A Railway Life

A Railway Life

Ok, so this one comes under the heading of:

‘And now, for something completely different…’

Long time readers might remember that Scotty (the principal photographer here on DF and my awesome hubby for anyone who hasn’t been here for a long time) is a rail enthusiast.

He’s loved trains since he was kid. He’s built a career in the railways that spans over three decades. And his appreciation for all things rail related has certainly influenced our visits to France. We mostly travel around France via trains and we’ve discovered some awesome French experiences thanks to Scotty’s interest (something I wrote about in this post – Let Your Hobby Guide Your Visit To France).

The other thing that Scotty loves is photography. And when he combines these two loves, the results are nothing short of spectacular. Scotty’s rail photography has been featured in several magazines in Australia including Railway Digest, Newsrail and Light Railways. And most recently his work was shared in the UK magazine, Steam Railway.

All of this goes some way to explaining why I’m so excited to introduce you to A Railway Life – Scotty’s amazing new website.

Introducing A Railway Life

A Railway Life

A Railway Life is a true celebration of Scotty’s love of railways and his creative photography.

You’ll find two expertly curated collections of photos over on A Railway Life. The first series is titled Iron Highways. It features images from Australian railways. The second is a moody black and white collection that centres around journeys beginning and ending.

This second series is the one fellow francophiles should definitely check out as many of the photographs were taken in beautiful French railway stations. These photographs bring back so many fabulous memories for me. And the black and white palette of these images adds real drama.

In a world where we’ve become accustomed to looking at images on small screens, there’s nothing quite like the impact of a large format picture printed with quality ink on fine art paper. The details literally leap from the wall. The black are inky and the whites are bright. (Of course, if you choose a full colour image the first thing you’ll notice is how the colours seriously pop.) I’m sure you can imagine how fabulous they look when they’re framed and hanging on walls.
