Frenchify Your Friday – Number 42

French rosé

I’ve wanted to suggest Frenchifying your Friday with a glass or two of French rosé for quite a long time now.

But, I’ve struggled with the timing of this recommendation.

You see, the Distant Francophile community has been growing steadily in recent times, and our gorgeous readers now come from all corners of the globe. And we work hard to ensure that our advice works for everyone, wherever they happen to be in the world.

As it happens, rosé is a warm weather wine. Chilled rosé works best on hot days – the sort of days that bring to mind lavender, stone, olives and cypress. And therefore, Provence.

Which means that while rosé is just the right tipple for the Australian summer, it simply won’t work if you happen to be based in Europe or the United States!

Luckily for me though, the Melbourne summer has been relentless. We’ve had a particularly warm week, at least as far as March is concerned. Our hot weather has hung on so long that I feel like I can propose that you Frenchify this Friday with a glass of rosé, without completely confusing our northern hemisphere friends – at least it is spring up there.

Now, I know that some of you will be screwing up your nose at the thought of sipping rosé, particularly if you grew up in Australia. Rosé has always been considered a bit of an abomination out here.

However, rosé doesn’t have to be feared any longer. If you have concerns about rosé, I encourage you to try Provençal rosé.

In fact, I don’t recommend anyone try anything other than Provençal rosé, unless it happens to have been made by a French wine maker. To my mind, rosé should be very pale and very dry, just like they make it in Provence.

So, no matter where you are on the planet this Friday (and regardless of the weather), why not Frenchify Your Friday with a glass of rosé.

If nothing else you’ll bring a little bit of the French summer into your everyday life.

All the best for a fabulous Friday.

Until next time – au revoir.
