The weather in Melbourne has been more odd than usual lately. I’d almost say it’s been a bit tropical (almost). It’s summer here, so it’s been warm. But it’s also been very, very rainy.
And my favourite thing about rain is the fact that I get to pretend that I’m a little bit French and rock an excellent umbrella.
The French take their umbrellas very seriously. We were delighted when we stumbled across a little boutique in Lyon that sold nothing but umbrellas. The store was packed from floor to ceiling with umbrellas in every size and colour imaginable. And I love the umbrella I purchased that day, as well as the memories that it evokes every time I have to put it up. The care the French staff took in teaching me all about my umbrella was a masterclass in customer service.
I love wandering Parisian streets in the rain. Partly because the wide footpaths make it easier navigate your way with an umbrella but mostly due to the fact that I can check out all the fabulous umbrellas. I’m always enchanted by the cherry red ones (my next umbrella will be red) but I also happily admire the blue and green ones, and some of striped ones are just gorgeous!
So to Frenchify Your Friday this week, why not do a little stocktake of your umbrella situation. If your umbrella is looking a little bedraggled it might be time to invest in one that you would be proud to carry in France.
All the best for a fabulous Friday.
Until next time – au revoir.

There was a gorgeous shop called Parapluies Simon in Paris on the Boulevard Saint-Michel near were I was staying and I really, really wish I had bought an umbrella there.
Thanks for the tip Kylie. We are staying near there next time we are in Paris and I’ll definitely check it out while we’re there. Let me know if you’d like me to pick up an umbrella for you.
Once, in Paris, I really needed a new umbrella. http://www.parapluies-simon.com/parapluies-paris is a wonderful spot to purchase un parapluie that won’t turn inside out. At home, in Canada, I buy Fulton umbrellas for travel.
Thanks so much for your comment Joanne. You are the second reader who has taken the time to point me in the direction of Parapluies-Simon. I’m clearly missing out. We are staying not far from the boutique on our next trip and I’m definitely going to check it out. I might come home with my coveted red umbrella.
