Welcome to the first Frenchify Your Friday for 2016.
To start the year off in a pretty sort of fashion – and to bring a little bit of French inspiration to this coming Friday – why not buy yourself a Phalaenopsis Orchid.
While I doubt these gorgeous blooms are of French origin (two seconds of googling suggests they are East-Asian natives) you see them absolutely everywhere in France. And right now might be a good time to apologise to the Phalaenopsis Orchid I found upstairs at Le Pré Catelan. It was so beautiful I could not believe it was real – so I touched a leaf. I can confirm it was a real plant and I really hope I didn’t bruise that leaf too much.
But I have to admit these special orchids didn’t truly capture my attention until we stayed at Le Petit Bijou, the sensational Saint-Rémy-de-Provence holiday accommodation owned by Vicki Archer and her husband David. Phalaenopsis Orchids adorn the residence.
Since our stay at Le Petit Bijou I’ve been a massive fan of Phalaenopsis Orchids and our home hasn’t been without a pot or two of the white flowering version.
They flower for months and are really easy to look after – just don’t over water them. They come in numerous colours and in single and double varieties (all are fabulous but I prefer the doubles in white). Add in the fact they cost about the same amount as a really nice bunch of cut flowers – but last so much longer – and you really can’t go wrong.
Are you a fan of Phalaenopsis Orchids? Do you have any special tips for caring for them? If so, please share your tips in the comments section below.
All the best for a fabulous Friday.
And until next time – au revoir.
