Four Parisian Hotels We Are Happy To Recommend

View from one of our favourite Parisian hotels

Start a conversation about Parisian arrondissements, as we did on Distant Francophile last week, and inevitably you will end discussing Parisian hotels.

Given our love of Parisian apartments, you are probably not surprised to learn that we’ve not stayed in too many hotels in Paris.

And truth be told, recommending a hotel can be as tricky.  What works for us in hotel might not work for you.

But while recommendations can be fraught with danger, they are not nearly as difficult as choosing a Parisian hotel in the first place. There are so many hotels in Paris, all of them catering to different tastes and budgets – it can be impossible to know where to start.

So with that in mind, I thought I would share the details of four Parisian hotels we’re happy to recommend.

  1. Hôtel Brighton – 218, rue de Rivoli, 75001 Paris. Nearest Métro – Tuileries. Brilliantly located directly across from the Jardin des Tuileries and just steps from the famous Angelina tea rooms, the Hôtel Brighton offers spectacular views across Paris to the Eiffel Tower from its deluxe rooms. These classically decorated rooms are very large by Paris standards – and they are also very clean and surprisingly quiet given the location. The breakfast buffet isn’t cheap but it is very good. Room tip – make sure you book a room with a view. We’ve stayed at Hôtel Brighton twice and promise that the views – like the one pictured above – are worth every cent.
  2. Hotel Odéon Saint Germain – 13, rue Saint Sulpice, 75006 Paris. Nearest Métro – Odéon. Nestled in the heart of the 6th arrondissement, within walking distance of the best the left bank has to offer, Hotel Odéon Saint Germain is a little gem of a place. Rooms are tiny but beautifully decorated and the staff are the friendliest we’ve ever encountered in Paris. Breakfast is available, but we’d suggest heading to a nearby café. Room tip – given the size of the rooms, we recommend you make the most of the honour bar and people watching opportunities and set yourself up by the window in the ground floor lounge area.
  3. Hôtel de Varenne – 44, rue de Bourgogne, 75007 Paris. Nearest Métro – Varenne. Situated in the 7th arrondissement, close to both the Musée Rodin and Invalides, Hôtel de Varenne is an excellent place to base yourself while you explore Paris. Clean, quiet and classy, this small hotel has everything you could wish for – and it’s right on the doorstep of some of Paris’ best shopping opportunities. Breakfast is available if you don’t feel like heading out.
  4. Hotel Duquesne Eiffel – 23, avenue Duquesne, 75007 Paris. Nearest Métro – Ecole Militaire. A little further from the river, this clean hotel in the 7th offers some of the most spectacular views of the Eiffel Tower imaginable. Rooms are small, clean and decorated in a modern style. Breakfast is worth trying at least once, if only to dine in the stone lined basement. Room tip – book a room on the fifth floor to get the best views as well as a balcony to enjoy them from.

Do you have a favourite Parisian hotel? If so, help out your fellow readers and share the details in the comments section below.

Until next time – au revoir.
